Someone on my timeline has just tweeted-As a teenager growing up in Wiltshire, I was inordinately proud of XTC . And here's the genius that is ONLY BLOODY ANDY PARTRIDGE: @xtcfans Yeah, I saw that too. It was tweeted by the comedy actor who plays the cafe owner in Lead Balloon (his name escapes me at the mo'). |

I was idly browsing in W.H. Smith's the other day and had a cursory glance at Dave Grohl's autobiograhy.
I noticed XTC had a mention in the index - turns out Grohl "really loves XTC"! |

Marc Riley played Snowman on his show last night. That's about £30 for Andy isn't it? Wonder what'll he'll spend it on.

£30? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I very much doubt it.

The us TV show 'Criminal Minds' always begins and ends with a quote.
Season 7 episode 4 opens with: 'You may leave school, but it never leaves you.' -Andy Partridge |

BBC radio 2 are the best payers.I see nothing from most US stations these days, shame. Sums from youtube, spotify etc are minute fractions of a cent,so low as to be criminal/derisory. Stealify is closer to the truth.
I survived the first eight years of XTC's career on radio play money but that would be impossible now as we don't get played so much and they don't pay. Good on yer radio 2 |

So are you saying radio 2 do pay £73.95 a go? No wonder you listen to that station. I bet you do lots of phone-in requests. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

BBC radio 2 are the best payers. I have some better payers in mind -- your fans! What if we loyal fans chocolate-fireball-chipped in to finance your next album of new music, instead of just buying CDs after the fact? Given the blatant ageism and injustice of the music "business", maybe we need to return to the patronage system, which worked pretty well for J.S. Bach. If this is a dumb or offensive idea, I'm sure I'll be told as much, but this could be a way for your listeners to pay you back, in part, for the joy we've received from your glorious music. |

Dave F that's very nice of you to offer but it's not lack of money that's stopping me from making an album
It's lack of confidence. The desire NOT to repeat myself. The long shadow of previous records Boredom with myself and my facile art been there, done that syndrome all of the above and more |

The long shadow of previous records Boredom with myself and my facile art been there, done that syndrome all of the above and more aw, that shouldn't stop you. Tom Waits new album is absolutely brimming with the type of music he's been making for longer than you've been recording and it's one of his most instantly critically lauded albums of his career. Not wrongly either, it's brilliant. I think the thing is, with an artist of your caliber, repeat yourself or not, you're the only ones that make the kind of music you do, so there can never be enough of it. |

The long shadow of previous records Boredom with myself and my facile art been there, done that syndrome all of the above and more Andy, I feel honored that you'd respond in such a personal way. I'd like to ask if you've considered forming a new band with musicians in your league or close to it, a la Traveling Wiburys. It would be hard to imagine almost anyone (other than Thom Yorke) turning you down. My apologies if you've already discussed this in another setting. Interacting with other musicians that you respect may get the creative juices flowing and dispel the boredom. My friend Barry Braksick, co-founder of Frontier Design Group (Tranzport, iShred app, etc.) had an interesting take on it: "I'd suggest he spend a day talking to people at Occupying Wall Street (or London, or... wherever), to develop a direct sense of what's going on in the world now, and how as an artist to express the feelings (anger, camaraderie, suspicion, solidarity, or whatever else) it inspires in him. Andy is one of the great pop stylists, but he is also an artist. And IMHO the best art is produced in response to, or interpretation of, the world around him/us. As he has demonstrated many, many times in his career." On the topic of repeating yourself, I think my wife Zehra said it best. In this big square dumbed-down world, "some messages are worth repeating." |

Recent Word magazine podcast (no.192) features an interview with Steve Lillywhite who talks about the "Weekend At The Manor" and described XTC as "fantastic"; Andy Partridge as a "genius" - "pound for pound one of the best creative people I've ever worked with".
