welcome to the APE Forum, sheph. Slip on your best smoking jacket and make yourself comfortable. XTC made some fine recordings, did they not? I hope your questions are answered. Our gracious host seems particularly chatty these days, I hope it continues. Hey thanks!! Yes they did make some very wonderful music. Fond memories of my youth (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) I picked English Settlement up in '85 and thought it was the only album by them because it was the only one the record store had. And then some time later I found Big Express, Mummer, and Drums and Wires. Shortly after I found Black Sea, Go2, and Whte Music. I wasn't too sure about those last two at first because they were so different from what I was used to, but they grew on me. From then on I picked up their stuff as it came out. I picked up Oranges and Lemmons a few days before I graduated high school, and Garden of Earthly Delights just seemed so appropos for the moment. They are one of the few bands from the 80s that really has the power to endure. I still enjoy listening to their music. I sure hope it's true that Ape will be remastering those albums. I saw somewhere else on here some talk of artwork for Skylarking, so that seems to lend some credibility to the rumours. |

There will never be any XTC reunion tours or records as I would never work with Dave or Colin again. How about this scenario: In 2035, not only is our world one beehive, but the surviving members of XTC, riddled with severe dementia, release recordings of Andy's voice with new instrumental backing, in a bizarre tribute celebrating the 40th anniversary of "Free as a Bird". As Andy knows from his years with the Virgin label, there are some things over which you have no control. (But I actually like "Free as a Bird".) |

Bimbleton, don't know if Terry's chops are up to scratch these days. His son's are probably warmer at the mo.Need to call Terry and catch up on things generally though. Terry's probably playing on Kai's Roland kit right now! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) Fantastic drummer, would have put him up against John Bonham any time. And, I agree with you Andy... TC had that kind of feel in his playing. A rock solid yet funky drummer, much like Bonzo. I often wondered how TC would have played certain tracks post Mummer. Am I right in thinking that Terry's use of the Snyper drum synth gave Stewart Copeland the idea for Ghost In The Machine & Synchronicity, to add extra depth to his awesome bass drum sound (plus the fact Hugh Padgham recorded them)? |
