I admit having a small tiny lil' problem with the Country flavour of "No world at all", caused by my rather… cold relationship with this style of music - hey OK, nobody's perfect! - Maybe is it all because of the pedal steel, Keltik?)

I understand where you're coming from young lady. "Country" does nothing for me either, but the pedal steel is a much maligned instrument - on No World At All it sounds beautiful.

Sadly, it's not the sound (wich is ok), it's the "genre" it reminds. I'm sure you're right, but Can't help thinking "country music" when I hear it. It tends to spoil the song, at first listen. I'm victim of a cliché, I know. Have to work on it. Musicotherapy… (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

The secret is, of course, the nature of the song and not its acoustic glories. It doesn't have the feel of a country-style number. I was also a bit taken aback by the sound of pedal steel in this context, but it works like a charm. Here's to BJ Cole!

interesting..

i did have a bit of a battle with the sound of the pedal steel - finished editing the playing that bj did - which is sublime - and then got the fear about the country thing - so much so that i did run off an entirely pedal steel free mx in case i wanted to change my mind at a later stage - as if!

it can't but colour the way you hear it - it's such a familiar ingredient of country music..

if anyone wants a copy of it without then write to me - it's way more folky..

what's wrong with folk??

Just downloaded the album yesterday, and it's fantastic! Like others who've commented so far, Maryfaith Autumn and Just You are highlights for me as well. Gorgeous.

Love the way the vocals are mixed/panned.

Cheers!

I listened to the album again the other day and it is such a pleasurable and distinct sound.
Okay, now I have to hear it again and yes Maryfaith Autumn does get locked in your head (in a good way).

I bought this without having listened to a single track. Well, at first I just didn't get it at all, so I put it aside for a while. Then several weeks later I put it on during a long plane flight and wow! Could this really be the same album that I had dismissed before? Now I love it, not a bad track on it. Sometimes its the slow growers that last the longest.

Kept me alive summer of 2009, that and some crackers and a few packets of post-dated convenience store ketchup. It really is a phenomenal album.

just listened to this album for the first and second time last night. very nice. I can imagine listening to this a lot. Also, this is the first time since my teens that I've really been taken by an album's packaging.
