One of my favourite songs.
All too busy trying to get it so right whilst getting it so horribly wrong. And still not getting it. On and on............Across This Antheap. |

Thanks Don. It was it's second go round as Todd R had already rejected it for Skylarking.

Yes to this. ONe of my faves as well, Don.
One of the things I really like about this one and "The Ugly Underneath" as well is that you can clearly hear the old XTC from the first two albums in it but its obviously more focused and cogent. That line about the screeching gulls and the jets and kettles "accompanied by truncheons keeping time on human skulls" floored me when I first heard it. That's some bad-ass shit, yo. |

Thanks Don. It was it's second go round as Todd R had already rejected it for Skylarking. Maybe if you had called it Across THIS Antheap from the beginning.... When I first purchased O & L, this was the song I most loved and repeated. Melodic with intensity, well-placed after Cynical Days, it is still a favorite along with MOS. Not sure where it would have fit it on Skylarking. Maybe right after Grass instead of The Meeting Place. Or right before the ending song, Sacrificial Bonfire. Yeah, Grass, then Antheap will do. |
