I always list this song as one of my very favorites. But I never see it on anybody else's list. Is there something wrong with me? Hey, if loving it is wrong, I don't want to be right.*
*Thanks to Homer Banks, Carl Hampton and Raymond Jackson (Stax Records). |

I think "Ballet" gets ignored because, while very pretty, she gets overshadowed by her almost as pretty but much sexier sister song, "1000 Umbrellas."
If my memory serves me well, I think the Forum members voted '!000 Umbrellas" their favorite off of Skylarking in one of the polls MaxP used to run on the old Forum. This post has been edited by Brian: Dec 20 2011, 04:52 PM |

I really like the middle section of BALLET,which came out with more dream energy than I thought it had to start with.

I really like the middle section of BALLET,which came out with more dream energy than I thought it had to start with. Agreed! Love the layered vocals in that section, and I think the energy carries through to the rest of the song, with the little added harmonies here and there. Brilliant. And no offense to 1000 Umbrellas (whom I also love), but Ballet will always be the apple of my eye. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I would definitely list Ballet as one of my top 10 XTC songs. I love how the cymbals are used to sound like rain (have I read that somewhere before?, or is that an actual observation of mine?)
