Because Virgin/EMI can't find the master tapes to side one of DRUMS AND WIRES {along with some other titles} we've decided to gather up the tapes and release BLACK SEA instead. It'll get the 'two discs' cut at 45 rpm treatment and copious notes/photos for a de luxe version like SKYLARKING.

Keep you posted when more is known.

Wow, that heavy thunder will be even more heavy! More room in the grooves for the needle. Thanks for the update, Andy.

Very worrying that Virgin have lost several master tapes. I suppose it has to do with that they have been sent around the world when re-iussues have been done. Very sloppy, anyway.

Wonder if Terry's up for the gold lame suit photo shoot these days?Fly him back across for it! Ha
That would be a coup for an inner bag pic...the return of Terry and the Love men ,even just a group photo done these days would give me an inner glow....why do I think of the cast from the Last of the summer wine?
Andy have you heard the original mix of WHITE MUSIC since 1977? I seem to remember Virgin wanting that redone, don't tell me they've lost the WM tapes too!

I wonder what demos, early mixes etc. have survived for Black Sea, and if some of them might make it onto (say) an APE download when you buy the album or something.
Aren't their two versions of "Respectable Street"? (Single & LP?)

The transition from "Generals & Majors" into "Living Through Another Cuba" could well be the best XTC non-crossfade crossfade ever! (It's actually an edit.)

Gav,Ya cheeky get,Last of the Summer Wine.Too close for comfort. Not sure of the WM mixes, wether they're lost or not. I guess we'll find out when we get to doing the vinyl.

Jeffrutti, trouble is we haven't the rights to do digital downloads so any extra/lost/alternate mixes etc will have to wait for the unknown future.
Yep,two RESPECTABLES,one album and one with requested 'clean' vocal,{same track remixed}. Still couldn't get it played on the radio in UK but only found out later that it was because of the phrase 'Sony entertainment centre',which was considered advertising. Doh!

..and they say the Americans don't get irony. I would have thought Sony's sales would have fallen, at least among those with a brain.

If Black Sea is re-released that would be swell.

BLACK SEA vinyl a little on the back burner...as EMI haven't located all the master tapes. This has also stopped us from working on releases of other titles. I hope that 5.1 NONSUCH and vinyl SETTLEMENT will take your mind off it for a while.
