And several members of this forum, who shall remain nameless.

Ah Simpleton, why shall we remain nameless? I think he should collab with Marmalade Army, or at the least sign this band to his label. One must always be bold and have hope (even though it may seem in bad taste) !

I knew you'd name yourselves, marmalade. And I knew if I named names, I'd inadvertently leave some names off the list, and then people would hate me because they'd think I was part of some kind of clique.

And then, there would be a big uproar on the forum about whether or not there indeed was a clique, and if so, who was in it and who was not. And then somebody would say something nasty about somebody else, and the uproar would increase in volume, and then the person who said the nasty thing would reflect upon it and would later apologize.

But not before steve and Toby intervened to restore order, and had to expel some miscreant in the process. And we really don't want that, now do we?

I seriously doubt whether such a thing could ever happen.

Has anyone said Ray Davies yet? Probably, huh?

There's a theory that you can never have 2 geniuses in the same room at the same time, but it has happened.

Anyway, a few names to chew on:

Tam Dolby, David Byrne, Bill Nelson, Paul McCartney, John Lydon, Paul Buchanan, Robert Fripp, Thom Yorke, Mark Hollis, Kate Bush, Colin Moulding, Dave Gregory, Scott Walker, Saun Ryder, Damon Albarn, Bowie, Mark E Smith, Bob Dylan, Phillip Glass, Nick Nicely, Tom Verlaine, John Cooper Clarke, Glenn Tillbrook, Joe Jackson.

A few years back, around the time of the fabulous Nonsuch, when I was finally getting into XTC in a seriously big way, Q magazine were debating who would/should/could fill the shoes of John Lennon in a reformed Fab Four - 'Julian Lennon' some said, while the majority went for Elvis Cosfuckingstello. (who's actually quite good, sort of)

Well, of course, the answer was fucking obvious - Andy Partridge, of course!

Beatle George was still alive at the time, so just imagine the following line up:

Beatle Paul: bass, gtrs, keys & vox.
Beatle George: gtrs & vox.
Ringo: Drums & Percussion.
Andy Partridge: gtrs & vox.
Colin Moulding: bass, gtrs & vox.
Dave Gregory: gtrs, keys & vox.
Dave Mattacks: drums & percussion.

I don't half talk a lot of shite sometimes!

Andy could do a lot worse than our very own Sticksman 3 for a, er, sticksman - then of course there's Jeff Truzzi.

Howabout AP producing the Anxiety Twins?

You did? How well you know me then! Anyhow, I see your point and wouldn't want to stir up strife around this cool place. Let order be restored!

In the meantime, I'd better get back to work on our follow-up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

How about Fagen/Becker, Sean O'Hagan, or Ben Folds?

Hi guys! I am new to this board and new to XTC in general. I figured that this was as good a place to make my first post as any. Anyways, XTC and Andy are incredible! I cannot believe that I haven't checked them out until now. Better late than never I guess. I went nuts and pretty much bought every album and set in the discography besides a few compilations. I am very excited to be on this musical journey. Everything about the music is amazing. The writing, the arrangements, the lyrics, the production etc... This music was exactly what I needed, and exactly what I was looking for. I am glad to be a member of this forum.

Hi P_H, and welcome. It's great that you are one of the lucky souls who have found a love for XTC (we're the chosen people, you know).

There's an unofficial XTC forum here:feel free to join us there as well.

Hmm, who should Andy collaborate with? This is so hard. Brian Wilson maybe? Paul Westerberg would be very interesting considering Paul is very American and Andy is very British - the two sensibilities might be more fruitful than imagined. Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (from Jellyfish) might be cool. Ditto for Green Gardside from Scritti Politti. Steven McDonald of Redd Kross is an excellent side-person. If I had my pick it would be Terry Chambers on drums, Colin Moulding vocals and bass, Barry Andrews on keyboards and vocals and Dave Gregory on guitars, keyboards and vocals with Andy on guitar and vocals. That would be my dream for all five of these guys to get together and release music and tour Europe, the UK, the US and Japan. That would be fairly ideal and entirely unprecedented. And obviously considering the set-up they'd be fairly well-taken care of (no vans, or budget motels plus days off).

Would this not be amazing?

Can you imagine such an amazing line-up?

How about Fagen/Becker..

Nice choice, Patrick! Don't you think there ought to be a NATO peacekeeping force in the studio though?

Becker: Thats four forty one..
Partridge: No, its three three nine.
Fagen: four forty point five
..
Partridge: Now its three three nine point two five..
Becker: Nearer three three nine point eight five..
Fagen: Four forty point seven one!

etc etc..

LOL. If that were ever to happen you would probably need something more severe than NATO. Maybe some ninjas or something. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Imagine the fly on the wall if that were to ever happen. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

You nailed Becker perfectly with that. I imagine his personality to be exactly that in the studio. That was priceless.

I'd like to see Andy collaborate with Bernard Sumner of New Order, always been a huge fan of both of their work and think they have a knack for melody most others don't! A few others off the top of my head would be Noel Gallagher, Glenn Tillbrook (or just produce a Squeeze record!), or even Howard Devoto could be interesting. It would also be nice to Andy collaborate with Colin and Dave again too!

Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) ... AP would be excellent in a spoofy-kids show setting. In other words, I would like to see AP move into more of an acting thing. but i have an inkling he'd have fun with kids (if spoofy) stuff. Not at the exclusion of anything else, mind you.

Oh, and for reals, Gibby Haynes and/or The Butthole Surfers.

I'd like to second Patrick_Henry's suggestion for a Ben Folds collaboration. With Stewart Copeland on drums and Tony Levin on bass. And several members of this forum on other instruments and background vox.

I know I'm repeating myself, but...

Rogue Wave

A.C. Newman of The New Pornographers

Blonde Redhead

Collective Soul

Dada

Dean Wareham formerly of Luna

e of eels

Ween

and Henry Rollins for some spoken word magnificence

Maybe those Godley and Creme guys would be good, too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
