So glad to hear its not spherious. I can understand the problems you must have being a 700lb armless fellow. You don't want to force anything or you'll be a red giant with a black hole.

That is a much meteor subject than I am used to, that’s for sure. Orbit out of my league, methinks. Aphelion a little like I’m getting the flu. Perhaps I need to lie down, put up my feet, and just try parallax.

Would you be open to a "referral" system in the meantime?

The Back Porch doesn't get many new members, but we get some (6 in the past six months). These people would probably also like to join The Ape Forum as well. When they register I could also ask if they're trying to register here and if they are I could pass on the name they're using to register here, so someone here could register them.

I could just post their forum-name here so you know they're trying to join.

Other people could post referrals of people who are trying to join if they know it's a person trying to register and not a spammer in the works.

I've just spoken to my tech man who informs me that joining the forum will be a lot easier and quicker from tomorrow onwards.The trouble is that out of every 100 so called applicants 90 something % are spam and the weeding out process was very time consuming and expensive. Also spam being sent from quite innocent computers can get a blame free individual barred through no fault of there own.
Hopefully all will be solved imminently. See you soon.

Well, it does look better. Seems like you eliminated about 2/3 of the spambots, yet the silly things persist.

Anyway...

Smudgeboy is a real fan trying to join. Asking around to figure out how to get in.
Looking at the memberlist a couple other names are also legitimate or are probably legitimate.

egidio sabbadini is part of the Italian contingent and a one man XTC promotion machine on Facebook.
Marky is probably also the same member as another big Facebook presence.
redbrickdream seems likely.

There were a couple recent posts in the FB communities linking to APE topics, so it akes sense that some new people would be trying to join.

Mr. Heston is trying to join the forum and has confirmed his humanity through his correspondence with me. He'd appreciate it if someone could admit him into this exclusive club.

...really, could you guys please designate a moderator? It doesn't even have to be someone who has to do a ton, Just someone who we could send personal messages to about this, will read the message and be able to admit the very occasional new members that we know about?

Have I mentioned that moderators are typically 100% volunteer? You don't have pay anyone.
Ask for volunteers, people will do it.

Take my word for it, if it's being done by people who even semi-regularly use the forum the responsibility is a "piece of piss," to use a turn of phrase I don't normally use. We just need a contact to send requests to join.

When I log in, the pop up notification for a new PM has packed up for me. I only know I have one when I go into My Controls. One of many glitches I've noticed recently. Plus people still can't join. Always more guests than members. Oh well, it's not that important I suppose. I guess everyone's on twitter these days. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
