I always list this song as one of my very favorites. But I never see it on anybody else's list. Is there something wrong with me? Hey, if loving it is wrong, I don't want to be right.*

*Thanks to Homer Banks, Carl Hampton and Raymond Jackson (Stax Records).

I think "Ballet" gets ignored because, while very pretty, she gets overshadowed by her almost as pretty but much sexier sister song, "1000 Umbrellas."
If my memory serves me well, I think the Forum members voted '!000 Umbrellas" their favorite off of Skylarking in one of the polls MaxP used to run on the old Forum.

I really like the middle section of BALLET,which came out with more dream energy than I thought it had to start with.

Agreed! Love the layered vocals in that section, and I think the energy carries through to the rest of the song, with the little added harmonies here and there. Brilliant. And no offense to 1000 Umbrellas (whom I also love), but Ballet will always be the apple of my eye. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I would definitely list Ballet as one of my top 10 XTC songs. I love how the cymbals are used to sound like rain (have I read that somewhere before?, or is that an actual observation of mine?)

You are correct on this, 1000 Umbrellas was voted the favourite song.
