Spidermage would have been exquisitely impressed if it was a hairy spider running round. Can you do one of those?

My first purchased venture into the world of The Milk And Honey Band. Dog Eared Moonlight is the sort of album that will worm its way into your heart the more you play it. Thumbs up for the cover art too, even my wife loved it and she's quite dismissive about most of the things I buy....

I got my copy a couple of days ago. It surprised me how evocative it was. My old man had dozens of Penguin books ( loads of the Pelican line as well) and of course, over the years, they acquired that patina that DEM has captured so well. There's even a grease spot where that cheese sandwich you had absently stopped eating had rested against the cover.......
I have a copy of 'Count Belisarius' by Robert Graves, that looks exactly like this. There's no CD inside though.

I have fallen in love with a single sound on the album: the tremolo guitar chord in "Just You" seems to pop dissonantly in on you, only to slot beautifully into its niche like a well-made piece of marquetry. Fine, fine work.

I love the moment in "Disappear" when we hear the fingers on the strings with reverb. Such a nice little bit of color that I find haunting.

For those of a guitar-playing bent, the kindly and knowledgable Mr. Robert White has informed me, and I quote:" ab wrong, no world, disappear and flowers are all in the DADGAD tuning (my fave) capo'd at 3rd, 5th, 3rd and 3rd fret respectively." Now you can copy the experience safely in your own home!

I'm really enjoying it so far. Early favourites are Just You and Maryfaith Autumn.

The packaging is excellent - it really takes me back to my youth, and to the smell and texture of those old, numbered, Penguins. Moreover, it actually looks like it was designed for a CD, rather than just being a shrunk-to-fit Lp vinyl cover.

Another stellar release! It's too soon to pick a favourite but it's great from start to finish.

I'll be getting the Crumbs uploads this weekend to complete my collection! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Permanently on my Nano at the moment. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Great album! Not sure if "Just You" is the best way to start the album, though it's a great song.

What happened to the second podcast? Has it come out?

And as if by magic part two appears...

I had to go back and relisten to part one (hardly a chore). A really nice run through the album... the slide guitar 'outro' is just beautiful.

I must have done something quite foul in a previous life: karma has dictated that I can't listen to the podcast due to an interruption in my domestic internet access due to a house move. I can't listen at work either. *sob*

That comforting thought does little to ease my frustration, Mr.S., but thank you. Actually you wouldn't believe the performance I am still going through to get internet at the new rental house. Only option is wireless due to our ISP not having access to the new exchange ( in this day and age) which means I have had to shell out for an Airport card ( due Monday) for the desktop eMac ( which was previously on ethernet to a cable modem) only to find that the Optus wireless USB device requires Java 1.6 which won't work on Mac OSX10.4, so I upgraded to 10.5 only to find it actually needs 10.7 so I am shuttling between work and home with a 2GB USB throwing updates around like confetti. One day........

Yes, Merci for the music. I've discovered your band thanks to Andy Partridge and Ape, with the issue of The Secret Life of… Then Crumbs I & II, and I was seriously hooked. Dog Eared Moonlight is a must. Songwriting and Production are splendid (I admit having a small tiny lil' problem with the Country flavour of "No world at all", caused by my rather… cold relationship with this style of music - hey OK, nobody's perfect! - Maybe is it all because of the pedal steel, Keltik?)

But I love the opening with "Just you"

Oh and Maryfaith Autumn is a pure gem…

And anyway - being a bookseller and a bookworm myself - an album with a book-shaped cd cover and lyrics like "Feed your head, Eat a book before you go to bed" can't be bad, can it be? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
