I'm surprised this was never posted here, it's been up for a month at Chalkhills and the Ballet itself has already finished it's run I believe.
http://www.hamburgballett.de/e/rep/orpheus.htm here's a long review of the ballet: http://www.danceviewtimes.com/2009/12/neum...ew-orpheus.html Stravinsky and Biber were not enough; at a later stage they decided to give the story a more contemporary look by adding some excerpts from Peter Blegvad & Andy Partridge´s album “Orpheus the Lowdown”, which is an electronic concoction of parts of Rainer Maria Rilke´s “Sonnets for Orpheus”, introducing Hermes as Orpheus´ soul-mate. This lends the whole production an additional literary dimension but complicates the appreciation for the audience through its loads of hardly understandable (English) texts. Hey, if the whole were translated to English and came to Milwaukee or Chicago, I'd watch it. |

Spastic, until now I had totally missed this information. Strange since you wrote about it many moons ago. Anyway, they are setting up the ballet again in Hamburg during October and November. Anyone interested to check it out?
